Brukner: Sales Growth Of China's Packaging And Special Production Lines
- May 14, 2018 -

China is the European plastics and Rubber Industry Machinery Manufacturers Association EUROMAP plastic and rubber machinery one of the most important export markets. In 2012, more than 10% of EUROMAP's total exports were exported to China, totalling about 930 million euros.

In the near future, EUROMAP Association interviewed CHINAPLAS 2014, the world's largest international rubber plastic exhibition, which is about to be opened in Shanghai on 23 July this month. The interview focuses on the development status of the company in China, the future expectations, such as whether China's economic slowdown will affect the company, and see the Chinese guests. It is becoming more and more interested in the high level technology and automation system. What challenges in China, as well as the impact of CHINAPLAS on them, will be compiled and published in succession to provide readers.

Interviewee: Brukner (Br u ckner) sales director Markus Gschwandtner and marketing manager Christian Aigner interview

How important is the Chinese market to Brukner compared with other markets? How important do you expect the Chinese market to be in the future?

Gschwandtner: over the past 3 years, about 2/3 of the film stretching lines sold by Brukner have sold to Asia, mainly in China. Since 1996, the production capacity of the BO film device has been expanded by 10 times. Now it accounts for about 40% of the world's total production capacity.

Due to the increasing demand for thin film in China, China will remain the most important market for Brukner. Media reports say it is difficult to maintain a steady growth of 7 - 7.5%. As the trend of urbanization continues to increase, there is further investment demand, but the growth rate is slower than in the past 3 and 4 years, and will be more orderly investment, because the funds are not as abundant as before, which will have an impact on our business.

Large standard film production equipment is being ordered in Western Europe, the United States, Japan, Taiwan and South Korea, and it is now turning to smaller special film production lines. But in Asia and other developing regions, large equipment is growing steadily and moderately.

In China, which industries and end product application areas are the most important or the most potential for Brukner company?

Gschwandtner:, first of all, is the soft packaging industry. The wealthier middle class is growing, and as people migrate to big cities and the degree of urbanization increases, the sales of packaged products in supermarkets and shopping centers will be bigger. As a result, the demand for flexible packaging will continue to grow. Accordingly, the demand for BO films and the Brukner production line for producing these films will also increase.

But Chinese film manufacturers are becoming more and more interested in special film production lines to meet the increasing demand for innovative and functional BO films, such as ultra-thin PP or PET capacitor films used in electronic consumer goods and electric vehicle capacitors. Or PET film for soft printed circuit boards and electrical insulation, such as cables and motor coils.

BOPET thin films are used in the rapidly growing solar and photovoltaic (PV) panels and supporting panels. As the media reports, western countries are discussing taxes on China's photovoltaic panels or setting other trade barriers, because they overinvest in solar panel production equipment and are flooded with low prices. But the market still exists. At the same time, we are also exploring plastics instead of front end glass panels. The trend is to use softer PV panels. For example, use smaller or larger 3D soft plates instead of the current 2D design to cover buildings.

Aigner:'s 5 - year plan for the Chinese government said they wanted to increase renewable energy (wind and solar energy) by 30%, so domestic consumption would increase, to some extent alleviated the export pressure of the PV board.

Gschwandtner: therefore, PV producers must pay more attention to domestic market rather than export. For Brukner, other special areas of growth include optical films, such as LCD displays, and portable 3C (communications, computer and consumer) devices and electric vehicles (EV, electric bicycles, skiing cars, electric cars) and lithium ion battery septum.

According to your experience, how high is the Chinese plastic processing industry looking for the whole turnkey production unit or production line, rather than the single core machine?

In the challenging business areas, such as plastic film production, the era of Chinese film makers seeking a single machine or machine component has become a history, especially when high performance and flexible machines are the key factors. For high value stretch films, it is necessary to buy the best set of film stretch production lines. Our expertise in plant layout is also very popular, but the general construction plant of local construction companies is supported by China's Design Institute.

What do you think the European plastic and rubber machinery manufacturers, especially Brukner, can meet the needs of Chinese customers?

Gschwandtner: according to our experience, Chinese film manufacturers are seeking comprehensive cooperation, not only to ensure high efficiency, low energy consumption and low operating costs, but also to mature technology and integrated production line solutions with "direct use", with a mandatory timetable for project management and team Association. And there's also a custom local service.

Strong support is needed in the decision-making process: market analysis, feasibility study, project engineering or optional financial solutions. Our China headquarters in Suzhou near Shanghai holds 2-3 training and seminars every year for our customers.
